50g Organic Caterpillar Control (Bacillus thuringiensis) - makes 100L

$28.00

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Subsp. kurstaki. 32,000 units/mg.

Bt is a bacterium found naturally in soils, and produces spores containing proteins that are toxic to caterpillar larvae when eaten. The gut must have a pH of 9.0 to 10.5 (high pH) in order to activate the toxin, which is how it specifically targets caterpillar and does not harm mammals, birds, fish or beneficial insects. There is no withholding period.

BT has no contact action, so it must be eaten by caterpillars. Larvae stop feeding soon after ingestion, but death and disappearance of treated caterpillars may take several days.

Bt is broken down by UV light, so it is best to apply in the evening when no rain is forecast within 8 hours. Do not apply as a mix with, or within 2 days of application of alkaline products. A general rate of application is 5g/10L every 10 – 14 days during times of caterpillar infestation. Store in a cool, dark place.
